About average at About Life
VeganSydney’s corporate board of directors have been having regular breakfast meetings at About Life in Rozelle for the past several months. While conspiring to overthrow everything from a corrupt government to bourgeois art, we have sampled the entire vegan menu.
Lets start by saying it didn’t take too long! For a health food store and cafe of this size the vegan pickings are slimmer than Kate Moss on a steady diet of cocaine. Prices are outrageous ($18 for the 2 lukewarm pre-made tarts pictured below) and the food is downright average and lets not even start on the scrambled tofu breakfast….
A quick browse of their website confirms a commitment to providing meat, dairy products, beauty products, gluten-free options. Enough said.

I’ve never had a good experience with AboutLife, both veggie options and otherwise. They used to deliver to my workplace and the food was never fresh, half the order was often missing, or if they had run out of something they would substitute it for something random (like I had a veggie dish ordered, and it came as a meat dish becase they ran out).
Classy way to run a business!
I remember going there for the first time about 2 years ago and being sure they would have awesome vegan options, ba-bow. I had a veggie breakfast of some sort that wasn’t fantastic. I went with three omnis and even their meals were average.
They’ve taken over the old Macro Bondi Junction store, I assume the menu will be the same as the one in Rozelle.
ba-bow is about right! I can get better vegan breakfast options from the majority of the run-of-the-mill cafes in the inner east or west than at About Life. Even the anti-vegan run, meat-choked menu at Cafe Giulia has better tasting, not to mention more breakfast options than About Average.
